Café ecoVerde is on the third floor of the Center occupying the totality of the roof in a designed garden in compliance with the green roof movement. Depending on the event, roof occupancy could be between 75-150 people. One stage is designed for across the border simultaneous double-staged events. The Roof has a panoramic view of the City of Tijuana to the South, the San Ysidro Border Crossing to the North East and the border fence to the North West giving us a unique view of the border and the City. There is a small Tápas bar that can serve high-quality “aperitivos y botanas” with specialty coffees, beer & wine. We will be inviting well-known chefs to prepare signature cuisine for exhibit openings and special events. The Café by group request can provide light breakfast and lunches, and tapas at night during events and concerts.
Future
Residence program for artists and arts professionals
ecoVerde Project: Colonia Federal Demonstration Project, The First Green neighborhood on the Border: Economic Development, Water Retention Systems, Street Amenities, Artist Housing, Solar Systems, Public Art, Gardens and Trees
The Milpa Social Farm
Is another ecoVerde program. La Casa del Túnel sits next to a vacant and contaminated one-acre piece of land that is owned privately by a neighbor. Negotiations are under way to acquire the property to install a garden program onsite that will work in conjunction with the CDT program.
The Garden will serve as a demonstration project along with the CDT Green roof to show the border community what can be done to improve the land. This will take remediation of the land, and planting of a farm that will also allow social programs like volunteerism, youth and senior programs for the Colonia Federal community. The farm will also offer fresh produce to the community when fully functioning. The Farm will also have water technologies that will allow maximum conservation and water retention. All efforts will be made to employ the indigenous conservation practices of the region.

La Casa del Túnel “Artist In Residence Program” (AIRP)
For periods of three or six months artist residents will be provided with studio and living accommodations. During the end of their stay - a solo exhibition will be held at one of the galleries at the Center or in the City of Tijuana. During the residency at La Casa del Túnel: Art Center residents will establish working professional links in the flourishing southern California and Tijuana arts communities. CDT resident artists will be predominantly international, but we will also host Mexican artists whose projects are suitable to a Tijuana residency. |
